Job trends in Central Florida: MyFoxORLANDO.com
A recent article listed Orlando as one of the top 10 cities for jobs now. Roger Lear, President of Orlandojobs.com , stopped by Good Day Monday to discuss job trends here in Central Florida.
Improving job market in Central Florida: Top 5 areas of Job Growth in these areas:
1) Hospitality and Tourism
2) Health Services
3) Education
4) Utilities
5) Transportation
2. Job Growth in the state is led by Orlando Metro Area in May
Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford + 6,600 jobs
3. Central Florida also led the state with the most job loss in May.
Palm Bay-Melbourne-Titusville -6,800 jobs (Space coast jobs loss because of Shuttle program)
4. Florida's 10.6 unemployment rate lowest since August of 2009.
With all this said, many Central Floridians are still not confident that the job creation doesn't include higher paying jobs. It is a MAJOR issue that will not change until central Florida companies are completely confident the economy is improving. However, unlike the last couple years, jobs are out there and each month Central Florida is leading the state in job creation.
Job seekers and underemployed HAVE to do the following:
1. Start Fresh- Forget about the last 2 years and all the negatives (turn downs, applications that went unnoticed, etc..)
2. TARGET your job search. Spend more time identifying companies you know nothing about that have use for your exact background. Too many job seekers spend too much time applying to jobs on websites like Orlandojobs.com and Careerbuilder. You must combine this with precision targeting of companies. Once you identify these companies, apply directly at their corporate websites.
3. Network. Online, make sure all your Facebook friends and Linkedin connections know you are in career transition. Off line, let everyone know in your neighborhood, church , groups and organizations know your looking. Attend networking events with the Chambers of commerce's and business networks.
