OrlandoJobs.com Survey Finds 10,000 Available Jobs in Central Florida
Another 10,000 Jobs Projected by Companies for 2011 Hiring

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 11, 2011 – Orlando, FL – In a bi-annual survey of Central Florida corporations, OrlandoJobs.com reports 10,000 open and available jobs, plus a projected addition of 10,000 more by the end of this year. The survey and its findings were released today and are posted on OrlandoJobs.com. (www.orlandojobs.com/whitepaper)

Roger Lear, President and CEO of OrlandoJobs.com, believes this good news forecasts an even better outlook for an end to the 11.3% unemployment rate in the region: “Central Florida companies are poised to be hiring leaders for the state. It will not happen overnight, but will be a slow upward curve.”

OrlandoJobs.com conducted phone interviews with 166 Central Florida-based companies between December 13, 2010 and December 30, 2010. The 166 companies surveyed employ an overall total of 186,431 employees in Central Florida, and cover 17 sectors, including: accounting, automotive, banking/finance, call center, construction, education, government, healthcare, hospitality, insurance, law, manufacturing, non-profit, real estate, sports/entertainment, timeshare, transportation, and utility.

KEY FINDINGS

• 74% of companies surveyed have current job openings that are available immediately.
• 92% of companies surveyed plan on hiring at least one person in 2011.
• 35% of companies surveyed plan on hiring at least 50 employees in 2011.
• 17% plan on hiring 200 or more employees in 2011.
• 32% of all companies feel that their hiring will be better than it was in 2010.

The top five hiring sectors for Central Florida are Healthcare, Hospitality, Education, Technology and Banking/Finance.

“This is great news for Central Floridians looking for employment this year,” says OrlandoJobs.com’s Roger Lear. “However, our survey also uncovered four impediments for job-seekers in today’s marketplace: human resource departments that are overwhelmed by floods of applications, many positions requiring specialized skills, still others are low-paying and may not compete against an unemployment paycheck, and all of these factors are contributing to a ‘hidden’ job market.”

“While frustrating,” explains Lear, “these findings are an opportunity for enterprising applicants to tweak a job search and focus on getting into a great company at a lower level now, so when hiring does rebound, you are in a position to advance yourself internally.”
